Abstract
437,809. Feeding sheets; folding paper. DIXON, H. E., 26, Holborn Viaduct, London,- (Brehmer. Geb.; Plagwitz, Leipsic, Germany) April 6, 1934, Nos. 10446 and 10447. [Class 100 (i)] Sheets are fed to a folder F of the buckling type in an overlapping stream, the extent of overlap of the successive sheets being so controlled that as a folded sheet S<1>, Fig. 11, is moving out of a folding pocket 1, the succeeding sheet S<2> has already entered the pocket 1, so that the folded sheets leave the rollers B<2>, B<3> without intervals, and thus the rate of producing folded sheets is increased. The sheets are fed from the top of a fanned out pile a, Fig. 1, or from the bottom of a series of overlapping sheets all, Fig. 6, which are formed from a pile a. by the aid of a belt 6, a roller 4, a pressing roller 7, a roller 10 driven at a greater speed than the belt 6, and a guide 11 and pressing roller 12. The final overlapping stream in which the sheets overlap each other to the extent of about half the length of a sheet is produced by the co-operation of feed rollers d, d<1>, Fig. 1, or 17, 18, Fig. 6, with a suction feeder B which is adjustable in position and is set at a distance from the feed rollers equal to the required amount of overlap. The suction feeder is formed of a suction chamber c, Fig. 1, or 16, Fig. 6, and a co-operating apertured belt passing over feed rollers b<1>, b<2>, b<3>. To prevent the feeding of underlying sheets prematurely a braking device k, Fig. 1, or a suction roller 19, Fig. 6, holds back the underlying sheets. The device k is formed as a gravity shoe or claw with separate hooks loosely mounted in arrow formation and so adjusted that when a sheet reaches the rollers d only the foremost hooks are in contact with the rear of this sheet. A curved guide n, Fig. 1, directs the foremost sheet to the rollers d, d<1>, and a feeler m releases a latch for controlling the advancement of the pile a by ratchet mechanism. The pile advance in the modification, Fig. 6, is controlled by electric contacts operated by a feeler 20. From the front feed rollers the overlapped sheets are advanced by a conveyer e, Fig. 1, or by inclined rollers 28, Fig. 6, and means for blowing air under the sheets in the pile a, and between the sheets of the overlapped stream are provided.
