Abstract

In a process for precipitating cellulose on woven or knitted fabrics containing cellulose fibres, the fabric is first treated in the bleached or unbleached condition with a caustic alkali lye, then, without washing, is thoroughly permeated by a solution of cellulose in, e.g. copper oxide ammonia, and is afterwards treated with precipitants--e.g. water or acids or both--, the fabric being then finished in the ordinary way. The concentration of the lye varies with the weight of the fabric and other factors, but generally may be from 14 DEG Be. to 28 DEG Be. The concentration of the cellulose depends on the nature and weight of the fabric: in an example a 4 per cent solution is used. Wetting agents may be added with the lye. After treatment with the lye the fabric is preferably partly dried. When acid is used as a cellulose precipitant the traces of acid remaining on the fabric are neutralized and the fabric washed and dried. Before drying, the fabric may be bucked or bleached. The finished fabric shows a silk-like gloss. Specification 227,480, [Class 42 (i)], is referred to.
