Abstract

417,726. Compound glass. CULVER, E., 42, Coolhurst Road, Crouch End, London, and CARLIER, G. A. G., 28, Parkside Drive, Edgware, Middlesex. April 11, 1933, Nos. 10824 and 34302. [Class 140.] Laminated lenses are made by supporting the assembly of glass plates 1, 2 and intermediate layer L of plastic material such as cellulose acetate on a pressure - distributing bed B of small elements or particles such as carborundum grains, iron filings, sand, or emery while applying pressure by a member I-shaped to conform to the curvature of the lens. A membrane C of chamois glove fabric may be used to prevent leakage of the particles. The bottom of the container may be constructed as a piston and a stationary head-piece provided to hold the lens. Bi- or multi-focal lenses consisting of glass parts of different curvatures united by a plastic layer to a single carrier lens may be made, a clamping ring being used to hold the parts in position.
