Abstract
400,781. Cables. KABELWERK VACHA AKT.-GES., Vacha, Germany. Nov. 10, 1932, Nos. 31859, 31860, 31861, 31862, 31863, and 31864. Convention dates, Jan. 16, Feb. 15, Feb. 22, April 18, April 25, and June 28. [Class 36.] An electric cable with air-space insulation comprises a conductor with a coating of rubber, integral with which are formed radial ribs, the outer edges of the ribs being protected by a second rubber sheath integral with them or a metal ribbon wound on helically to form an electric screen. Figs. 1 and 2 show such a construction in which the ribs 3 are arranged helically and integral with the outer sheath 4, which is provided with a screen 6 of sheet-metal with bent over edges. The screen 6 may be replaced by a woven wire tube over a cover of fibrous material. Several screening layers may be employed separated by insulating layers and provided with earthing wires. Two or more conductors may be combined in a single sheath 4 and further rubber sheaths forming air spaces may surround the sheath 4 and be spaced from it by ribs integral with one or the other sheath. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 16 the sheath 6 is dispensed with, a wire 4<1> being wound directly on the edges of the ribs 3 and covered by a helically wound metal ribbon 5<1>, a fibrous covering 7<1> being provided. Further screening layers with earthing wires and protection layers may also be employed.
