Abstract

408,050. Sifting- apparatus; hoppers. WILSON, J. F. G., 59, Blake Road, New Southgate, and MUNRO, Ltd., R. W., 103, Cornwall Road, South Tottenham, both in London. Nov. 23, 1932, No. 33053. [Classes 59 and 117.] Apparatus for grading coal, fruit, &c. comprises a series of slats, a, Fig. 1, rollers &c. attached to chains, belts &c. b arranged to travel parallel to each other and means such as an inclined guide bar g adapted to vary the size of the spacing between the slats &c. as they travel from one end of the machine to the other. The position of the guide g may be adjusted by screws 2 working in brackets 3, and the guiding surface may be serrated to impart vibrations to the slats. A modification is shown in Fig. 4, in which transverse rollers u are carried by hinge-jointed links. A cross-bar v connected to the links of adjacent rollers travels under the inclined bar x. The graded products are delivered by transversely inclined canvas shoots j, Fig. 2, into hoppers h which are preferably provided with a flexible false bottom k fixed at one edge and at the other passing over a roller l and secured to springs m or weights. The door n of the hopper is hinged at its top edge and held closed by a spring catch o so that it can be opened on being struck by hand or by a conveyance.
