Abstract

407,450. Ball - and - roller bearings. SHAW, J. L., 7, Crescent Road, Crouch End, London. Nov. 7, 1932, No. 31371. [Class 12 (i).] The space between the races of an antifriction bearing is almost completely closed on one or both of its sides by an annular thin metal washer f secured to the cage d1, d2 beyond which it extends radially so as to exclude foreign matter from and retain lubricant in the bearing. The cage is in two parts d1, d2 secured together by rivets e and having opposed semi-circular recesses for the balls c. The washers f, which are preferably of brass, are secured to the cage by the rivets e or by brazing or spot welding. The cage may have a fine running clearance with the inner race only as shown, or with the outer race only, or may have more than a fine running clearance with both races. According to the Provisional Specification, when the invention is applied to pressed cages the rivets have spacing sleeves.
