Abstract

393,159. Preparation of pulp. ASPLUND, A. J. A., 18, Norr Malarstrand, Stockholm. Oct. 10, 1932, No. 28235. [Class 96.] Lignocellulose materials are defibrated by being heated to a temperature above 212‹ F., and d defibrated b y mechanical treatment at such temperature in the presence of moisture without facilitating the defibration by extended digestion. In an example, the material is chipped and steamed at 3-4 or more atmospheres at a temperature of 10-20‹ higher than the temperature of defibration, which is 300-340‹ F. for coniferous and 280-300‹ F. for hard woods. The moisture content of the material may vary from 55 to 75 per cent after heating is completed. Defibration is effected as soon as possible in kollergangs, ball or rod mills, or preferably in a closed cylindrical vessel 2 having a central rotating shaft 5 carrying blades 6, preferably pivoted at 7, which serve to throw the material against the walls of the vessel and the longitudinal bars 9. The process may be carried out in the presence of larger quantities of water and with the addition of alkalies or sulphur compounds, or the material may be defibrated and subsequently digested.
