[Class 79 (iii).] To prevent unauthorized use of a motor vehicle the transmission clutch is held in the disengaged position by means operatively connected to a lock on or in the vicinity of the dashboard, the key of which serves to actuate the means as well as the lock. A barrel-type lock 9 on the dashboard 8 is coupled directly to a rod 10 extending through a tube 6 and terminating beneath the floorboards 4 in an arm 12 adapted, upon rotation of the rod, to engage lugs 2 on the clutch pedal 1 to retain it in the depressed position, the key rotating the rod 10 with the barrel of the lock. Alternatively, the rod 10 may be extended into the clutch casing, the arm 12 then acting upon the movable clutch element. The lugs 2 may be formed on a sheet metal member 2a bolted &c. to the pedal arm or a lug or lugs may be formed integrally with the arm. Alternatively a notch may be cut in the arm or the locking arm 12 may be arranged so that it can be moved to engage the radial portion 3a of the pedal arm. A protective casing 13 may be riveted &c. to the underside of the floorboards.
