Abstract

383,636. Paper boards. RICHARDSON CO., Wyoming Avenue, Lockland, Ohio, U.S.A. May 16, 1931, No. 14568. Convention date, July 16, 1930. [Class 96.] The process for making a fibrous pulp described in Specification 341,542 is applied to the production of a fibrous pulp containing a synthetic resin. A phenol-formaldehyde &c. resin is prepared in a molten condition, the fibrous material added to it, and both materials are kneaded to disintegrate and disperse the fibres prior to the whole mass being partially broken up by the addition of water, which the fibres absorb readily, and then treated in a beater ; the temperature of the mixture is kept below that at which the resin polymerizes and becomes infusible and the adhesive and extensible condition of the resin assists in the dispersion of the fibres. In the resulting material, there is no continuous surface film of resin. Waste stock from the material so made can be utilized again by adding to the fibrous material and resin an amount of stock up to 50 per cent of the weight of the total mass thereof. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the resin may be prepared from acidic anhydrides and esters of polyhydric alcohols, by condensation of aldehydes with amines, by polymerization of hydrocarbons or by condensation of ketones with themselves. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
