Abstract
383,410. Signs ; transfers. FRENKELS, Ltd., 1, Godliman Street, and WOOLIDGE, A. H., 46, Farringdon Street, both in London. Nov. 10, 1931, No. 31162. [Class 3 (ii).] A method of mounting signs on a surface such as a shop window by a transferring process comprises treating cut-out characters d of paper, foil, fabric or wood veneer with an adhesive, and mounting them in a readily detachable manner on a flat support b, preferably of cardboard, with the treated side outwards. The characters may be attached to the support by means of a weak adhesive such as wax, their outer surfaces being coated with a strong water-soluble gum, and the surface to which they are to be transferred being moistened ; heat may be applied during the transferring operation, which will have the effect of evaporating the moisture and also melting the wax. According to modifications, the characters may be temporarily attached to the support by " cutter-crushing " or by perforating them in such a manner as to cause tongues to project into the support ; in the latter case the perforations may be used to enhance the appearance of the sign when viewed by transmitted light. For larger signs the letters may be mounted-on separate supports provided with engaging means for securing correct alignment.
