Abstract
369,375. Bending bars. CRUMMIE, E. R. and ASHLEY TRADING CO., Ltd., 75, Victoria Street, London. March 7, 1931, No. 7174. [Class 83 (iv).] In a machine for bending metal bars of the type comprising a pair of relatively adjustable clamping jaws and a pressure plate swingable around an edge of one jaw as axis, this jaw is settable so as to present alternative edges of different character about which bending is effected. The jaw 5 is adjusted by a screw 8 and returned by springs 7. The plate 9 is pivoted at 10 in a carrier 11 swingable about the near edge of the jaw 4 and is adjusted by a screw 12 so as to bear uniformly on the surface of the bar. A stop 14 adjustable in an arcuate track 13 is provided. The jaw 4 has a shank 4b fitting into a socket in one of the uprights, the opposite diagonal corners 4a, 4c of which are respectively sharp and rounded so that it may be placed in position to form a sharp or rounded bend. The jaw may be relatively narrow so that a double bend such as required in making a U-shaped bracket may be effected.
