Abstract
357,848. Aircraft coupled in trains. WARD, W. C., Orchard Lake, Michigan, U.S.A. Nov. 17, 1930, No. 34602. [Class 4.] In an airship of. the type comprising a number of aerostats flexibly connected together and provided with auxiliary supporting means, the aerostats are arranged in tandem and are provided with telescopically collapsable connections. Aerostats A, B, C, Fig. 1, each provided with an axial tube E are interconnected by tubular housings D which are of lesser diameter than the tubes E into the ends of which they project. Between interengaging tubes are arranged springs 9, Fig. 2, upon guide rods G<1> and abutting against shoulders H, H<1> respectively on the tubes D, E. The forward aerostat A has its tubular portion E extended forwardly and provided with a pyramidal transparent nose piece F forming an observation cabin. The tubes D may also be employed as cabins, a series of cables I surround the aerostats and are attached at their forward and rear ends to the tubular housing. Similarly cables J surround each individual aerostat. Wings K project laterally from each aerostat. Tractor screws L and helicopter screws M are arranged as shown. The landing gear comprises wheeled undercarriages N.
