Abstract

332,927. Ryder, F. P. April 30, 1929. Sorting on inclined endless bands.-Pods and haulm of bean plants fall from rollers on to the upward run of an endless band 28 that is kept taut by a spring pulley 43 and is moistened by passing into liquid in a trough 45. The leaves adhere to the wet band and are carried away over its upper pulley, a scraper 46 being provided to remove any that do not fall over. The pods and the heavier parts of the haulm slip down the band on to the upward run of another endless band 59, this slipping being facilitated by agitation of the band given by flat-sided rollers. The second band which is moistened and agitated in a similar way to the first is provided with hooked projections by which the stalks are carried up and away while the pods fall downward on to a transverse conveyer 72.
