Facing and ornamenting bricks and tiles.- Sand-lime bricks and tiles are provided with glazed and colour effects by the application of dry oxide colours and then a coating of transparent cellulose varnish. Surface pores are filled by lime, any desired number of colours being applied in order to produce the desired effect, after which the cellulose varnish is sprayed on. White effects in an umbrated pattern may be produced by applying the cellulose coating direct to the prepared surface. According to the Provisional Specification a coating of sodium silicate may be applied to the colour layer prior to the application of the cellulose coating.
