304,540. Plummer, C. St. C., and Kermode, W. M. May 8, 1928. Packing, metallic. - The contraction of a split packing ring 1, for a shaft or a pipe joint, is assisted by a spiral spring 3, which extends across the gap in the ring and is secured to pegs 4, 5 in grooves in the ends of the ring. The ring may be of gun-metal, phosphor bronze, iron, or steel.
