Abstract

Puncture or deflation, indicating.-A signal is given when the pressure in any of the pneumatic tyres of a motor car sinks below a predetermined pressure by means of the automatic completion of an electric circuit. A pin 6 is disposed in a hole in the detachable rim 5 of the wheel. This pin has two flanges 7, 8, as shown, of which the former is separated from the pneumatic tube 10 by a strip of canvas 9. To the permanent rim 11 of the wheel is attached a tube 12 in which works a pin 13 pressed against the flange 8 by a spring 14. Around the tube 12 is a sleeve 15 of insulating material in which are fitted two contact pins 16, 17. To the end of the pin 13 is secured a disc 18 which normally is well clear of the contact pins, but when the tyre is deflated engages the contacts 16, 17 to complete an electric circuit and cause a signal to be given. The contact 17 is connected to a pin which carries a yielding contact roller wiping past a contact carried by the steering hub which contact is connected to a signal lamp on the dashboard and a battery the other pole of which is connected to the vehicle frame. the contact 16 being also so connected through the hub of the wheel. The lamp will blink at each revolution of the wheel when the contacts 16, 17 are made. The same lamp may function for any of the wheels or a lamp may be provided for each wheel. In a modification, the tension on the spring is adjustable by means of a screw and the flange on the lower end of the pin is adapted to engage a contact on the side of the rim. This contact is connected to an insulated ring of a ball bearing on the axle, the other ring being in electrical connection with the signal lamp.
