Abstract

272,374. Nouvelle Soc. des Ateliers Patte. Sept. 21, 1926, [Convention date]. Diaphragm pumps; liquid-piston pumps.-In a pump for mud or muddy liquids an adjustable eccentric 11 actuates a piston 9 which acts on a body of glycerine or other suitable liquid above a flexible diaphragm 12, which transmits the pumping action to the mud in the main pump 1. The inlet 2 is provided with a check valve (not shown), and the outlet with a gravity-actuated discharge valve 4. Excessive deformation of the diaphragm is prevented by perforated metal partitions 14. Inlet and outlet valves 15, 16 are provided in the piston, to avoid shocks due to excessive pressure or suction in the pump. Packing and lubrication of the piston is provided by the glycerine, though rubber packing rings may be used if desired. An orifice 4<5> can be opened for cleaning the valve by water under pressure, the head of the valve being made substantially hemispherical. The adjustment of the eccentric is effected by sliding the sheave on the bolts 11' which hold it to a plate 11<4> carried by the shaft.
