Abstract
277,347. M³ller Akt.-Ges., C. H. F., Assignees of Thaller, R.). Sept. 7, 1926, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes. - In Lenard cathode-ray tubes in which the cathode rays from a highly emissive cathode pass out of the tube through their aluminium or other foils, the foils are cooled during normal operation of the tube by blowing a current of gas or liquid on to them. The foils are thus protected from damage due to the heat produced by the absorption of some of the electrons, so that the cathode emission and radiant energy may be increased. Discharge voltages of 250,000 volts with incandescent cathodes, also tubes constantly connected to a vacuum pump, are referred to. In a tube with a spiral incandescent cathode 2 and annular anode 3, the foil 4 is supported by a grid 5 and cooled by gas jets from nozzles 8 in an annular pipe 7.
