Abstract

253,454. Dunn, W. C. Jan. 26, 1926. Clutches and speed-varying mechanism. - A hydraulic power transmission gear comprises a driving shaft 15, Figs. 1 and 5, having a pinion 21 meshing with pinions 22, 23 enclosed in a casing 20, a driven shaft 16 having a pinion 32 meshing with a pinion 33 journaled in a fixed outer casing 19, a casing 35, and an axially movable controlling valve 47, the casings 20, 35 and valve 47 being mounted to rotate with the driven shaft. Direct drive is obtained when the valve is disposed as shown in Fig. 1, the passages 26, 27 being closed, and the gears 32, 33 drawing liquid through an aperture 45 and delivering it through an aperture 46. A positive connection is obtained by moving the valve so that pins 47<a> engage recesses 21<a> in the pinion 21. Lower speeds, no drive and a reverse drive are obtained in succession as the valve is moved to the right-
