Abstract
258,057. Robb, A. Aug. 12, 1925. Rolling motion of ships, damping.-A device for modifying the rolling motion of ships comprises a pair of heavy bars E, E' placed one on each side of the keel D and provided at their ends with upturned extensions shaped to conform to the configuration of the stem and stern to which the ends of the bars are secured by hook members C bolted at B to the stem and stern in such a fashion that the bars E, E' are free to swing about an axis fore and aft of the vessel A. Should rolling occur, one bar alternately maintains a substantially vertical position, whilst the other bar is alternately swung by the keel, the arrangement being designed to check rolling. In a modification, the ends of the bar are formed with eyes, with which engage pins which also pass through eyes formed on plates bolted to the stem and stern of the vessel.
