Abstract

Backpack straps number 2 that integrate into the main body of a backpack or suitcase number 4. The straps are integrated into indentations on the main body number 7 of the case via connected zips 1. The straps may be attached to the main body using parallel zips connected via webbing 5 to zip or unzip the zips at the same time. Figure 1 shows the straps zipped into the main body of the case, whereas figure 3 shows the straps fully unzipped ready for use.

Description

This invention relates to a way of packing away backpack straps
When people are travelling with a hand luggage suitcase they sometimes may be required or may wish to check in the bag rather than use as carry on luggage. Any backpack straps are advisable to be packed away, or removed so that the straps are not damaged in transit. There is also an issue where backpack straps and webbing can get caught on the mechanism of a luggage conveyor belt during the check in and luggage retrieval belt.
Backpacks that also have an integrated trolley and wheels (hybrids) also require backpack straps to be packed away so as not to get in the way when the user is pulling the backpack via the trolley and wheels.
The current methods of packing away backpack straps involves unclipping the straps and tucking into another pocket, or tucking into the main case. Or having a compartment that zips down to reveal the back straps. Or removing the backpack straps altogether.
The current methods of packing away the backpack straps can present problems for the user. Two free hands are required to perform the operation of unclipping the backpack straps, often not possible with travel documents, phone and other items in hand. The ergonomic design of the back padding is compromised due to the need for the extra pocket or flap required for packing away the backpack straps. The process of packing or removing the straps can be time consuming in particular if the user is often switching between trolley and backpack usage.
To overcome these problems the invention proposes to have backpack straps that attach into the main body of the suitcase. The back straps are integrated into indentations on the main body of the case via connected zips.
These zippers on the back straps are connected via webbing so that the user can then zip/unzip the back strap quickly with one hand. The design is preferable with a metal tooth zipper but the fastening of the straps to the bag may also be achieved by a zip lock or similar alternative.
By providing for the back straps and accompanying webbing to be zipped or attached into indentations in the main case they are protected from damage when not in use and when in transit. It also removes the requirement for an extra pocket to pack away the back straps’, thus reducing manufacturing labour costs, fabric requirements and overall product weight.
The invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1
Shows a trolley backpack suitcase with backpack straps zipped into the main body of the case.
Figure 2
Shows the backpack straps partially unzipped from the main body of the case
Figure 3
Shows the backpack straps fully unzipped ready for usage
Figure 4
Shows side elevation to Figure 1 with backpack straps zipped into the main body
Figure 5
Shows side elevation to figure 2 with backpack straps partially unzipped from the main body
Figure 6
Shows side elevation to figure 3 with backpack straps fully unzipped ready for use
In figure 1 the backpack strap that will be padded by sponge to approx. 5mm to 10mm sponge or alternative is attached to the main body of the case by zippers or alternative numbers 1 either side of the backpack straps number 2. The top portions of the backpack straps are connected at number 3 to the main bag permanently via bar stitching. When the backpack straps numbers 2 are zipped into the main body of the case number 4 they together form a flat padded area making the case ergonomic and suitable for baggage check in.
Figure 2 shows the backpack straps partially unzipped upwards from the suitcase via the connected pullers number 5. The webbing number 5 connects the two zippers for equal upward and downward zipper movement
Figure 3 shows the backpack straps fully unzipped revealing the back strap webbing number 6 that had been previously been tucked away under the zipped backpack strap number 2. This webbing attaches the backpack strap at the base of the bag to the main body of the case number 4. This illustration shows the indented area number 7 where the backpack strap zips into the main case.
Figures 4,5,6 show side elevations
Figure 4 showing the backpack straps number 2 zipped into the number 4
Figure 5, shows partially unzipped using puller webbing number 5 revealing back strap webbing number 6
Figure 6 shows fully unzipped backpack straps number 2
