Abstract

A vortex garden sprinkler is comprised of a cylindrical shaped water chamber 4,which has a domed shaped top with a counter sunk water outlet 1,the sprinkler has a water inlet pipe 2,that allows pressurized water inlet 6,to be vectored into an anti-clockwise flow of pressurized water (3,Fig 2) that forms a vortex within the sprinkler water chamber 4. The pressurized rotating water rapidly rises to the top of the water chamber and exits the sprinkler in a fine spray mist fountain. A clockwise vortex is achieved by reversing the flow of pressurised water (3,Fig 2) by moving the water inlet pipe 2, to the bottom left hand side of the water chamber 4. The whole sprinkler is held into position with a tapered crossed ground spike 7,which is attatched or moulded to the bottom of the sprinkler. And is then driven firmly into the ground for a secure footing.

Description

2403 1 23 Vortex Garden Sprinkler This invention relates to a garden
sprinkler which is extremely simple to set up and use in any home garden or greenhouse,it will provide a flawless spray mist or fountain for the watering of plants, once finished with, due to it's small size, it can be easily stored in any convenient space such as cupboards, shelves or even tool boxes.
Most garden sprinklers have small moving mechanical parts which allow the water to be distributed evenly across a certain area, these moving parts are prone to eventual wear and damage. These types of design also rely on multiple hole or "shower head" style of delivery, which also may become blocked with frequent use,and may not provide an even soaking.
An object of this invention is to provide a flawless spray mist or fountain for plants within the vacinity of the vortex garden sprinkler. The sprinkler has the added advantage of having no moving or mechanical parts what so ever.
Accordingly, this invention provides it's flawless spray mist or fountain by using the physics of the vortex.this is acheived by forcing vectored water into a cylindrical container in such a way that the pressurized water is rotated within the cylinder and is forced out through a single counter sunk hole which is situated at the top dead centre of the cylinder water chamber. The sprinkler is held firmly into place by the use of a pointed or tappered crossed ground spike which is attatched or moulded to the bottom of the cylinder chamber, and then the whole structure is driven into the ground.
The vortex garden sprinkler should be made of plastics material,it could be made of metal but this could rust and perish over time, and the metal materials would be more expensive to use than plastics.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 shows a sectioned side view of the whole sprinkler.
FIGURE 2 shows a sectioned top view of the whole sprinkler.
As shown in Figure 1,the vortex sprinkler is a cylindrical container with a slightly domed top, which has a water inlet pipe 2,situated at the bottom right hand side of the sprinkler to allow water inlet 6,into the water chamber 4.The sprinkler has a counter sunk water outlet 1, which is located at the top dead centre of the sprinkler water chamber 4.
Attatched or moulded to the centre bottom of the sprinkler is a tapered crossed ground spike 7,which is driven firmly into the ground prior to use to ensure a secure footing.
Figure 2 shows a sectioned top veiw of the sprinkler when in use,the pressurized water flows in through the water inlet 6,and is vectored into the bottom right hand side of the water chamber 4,by the water inlet pipe 2.This creates an anti-clockwise flow of pressurized water 3,which produces a vortex within the sprinkler water chamber 4.The water rotating in the vortex then rises to the top of the water chamber 4,and exits the sprinkler by the counter sunk water outlet l,producing a flawless spray mist or fountain.
The vortex garden sprinkler is dictated to by the natural rotation of the earth, hence, the flow of pressurized water 3,within the sprinkler is rotating in an anti-clockwise vortex as shown in Figure 2.This direction of motion will only allow the sprinkler to produce it's spray mist or fountain in the northern hemisphere of the globe.
To use this principle in the southern hemisphere, the flow of pressurized water 3,has to be reversed in the water chamber 4,to produce a clockwise vortex within the sprinkler. This can be acheived simply by reversing the position of the water inlet pipe 2,to the bottom left hand side of Figure l.Then this will produce the spray mist fountain in the southern hemisphere of the globe.
The vortex home garden sprinkler can be used and placed anywhere in the home garden to give an even soaking to all plant foliage within it's vacinity,it can be placed amongst dense plant foliage and left to soak plants and ground.
The sprinkler can also be used in a greenhouse by simply placing it into a plant pot of soil, left in the centre of the floor of the greenhouse, switch on the water feed to the sprinkler, and the sprinkler will evenly soak every plant within it's vacinity.

Claims (6)
