Abstract

A hollow exteriorly spiralled reinforcing bar (c) is fitted with a valve assembly (d) comprising collar (b) and flap valve (a), inserted into a cavity in wall to be reinforced, and grout is pumped in to fill the cavity as shown, whereby air pockets in the grout are avoided.

Description
Grouting Bar & Grout Valve This invention relates to a reinforcing bar and attachment which guarantees being encased in grout, enabling full structural requirements when stabilising existing concrete or brickwork.
In the construction industry reinforcing bars are used to enhance the structural strength of concrete, brick and stone. At present the method used is to fill a pre- drilled hole with grout and then insert a solid reinforcing bar. This has a disadvantage as air pockets are commonly formed which causes inconsistency in the grout coverage, greatly reducing the structural requirements.
The object of this invention is to provide a reinforcing bar and attachment that guarantees full coverage of grout around the reinforcing bar within the pre drilled hole.
The Grouting Bar eliminates these problems by removing the possibility of any air pocket being formed in the pre drilled holes by inserting the hollow centred Grouting Bar with Grout Valve. Then injecting the grout under pressure inside the hollow centre thereby forcing the air through and over the spirals of the Grouting Bar. This allows the grout to follow thus ensuring complete filling of the void within the pre- drilled hole. Therefore, full structural calculation is met.
The Grouting Bar can be made to any diameter or length to suit application The Grouting Bar will be made of metal or plastic or combination of both.
The Disposable rubber seal (Grout Valve) incorporating the one way valve will also be made to suit various diameter Grouting Bars.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Previous Method Figure la. Shows conventional grouting showing air pocket.
Figure lb. Is solid bar insertion into air pocket.
Figure lo. Pressure grouting using rubber seal Preferred Grouting Bar Seal Method Figure 2a. Cross section of Grouting Bar showing hollow centre with spiralled outer surface.
Figure 2b. Illustrating grout valve and seal.
Figure 2c. Application of Grouting Bar showing movement of grout.
Figure 2d. Shows full encasement of Grouting Bar on completion of insertion. 2.
As shown in Fig la-lc conventional grouting creates air pockets in predrilled holes therefore when standard grouting bars are inserted it does not complete all structural requirements of the materials due to the air pockets created.
Fig 2a shows a cross sectional view of the new Grouting Bar with formed rebate for the attachment of the Grout Valve prior to insertion into the pre-drilled hole.
Fig 2b shows the Grout Valve that is made from soft rubber with a "clack valve" one way valve (a), this prevents the liquid grout from returning once the hole is filled.
The soft rubber outer ring (b) allows the air to be expelled out of the hole and allows the grouting to follow.
Fig 2c shows the flow of grout through the Grout Valve assembly along the hollow centre of the Grouting Bar to the full extent of the pre-drilled hole, continuing back and upwards around the spiral grooves until all air is expelled and grout is visible around the outer seal showing full saturation of the grout within the hole.
Fig 2d shows completed reinforced section, showing the full encasement of the Grouting Bar in the cavity.
Grouting Bars are commonly used throughout the Construction Industry for example, in the reinforcing of older road and rail bridges where using the "Grouting Bar" will increase the strength of the reinforcing. 3.
