Abstract
A chewing gum dispenser and disposal device consists of a hollowed flattened spherical body portion having two isolated compartments 7, 11. The first compartment is an inner hollow cylindrical compartment 7 with a hollow detachable cylindrical lid section 8 that when attached retains small items within the inner compartment 7. The second compartment is a outer hollow circular chamber 11 with a hinged door 5, which, when closed, retains small items within the outer compartment 11. Preferably the outer compartment 11 is put to storing fresh chewing gum, while the inner compartment 7 is put to storing used chewing gum. Preferably the cylindrical lid section 8 is attached to the inner compartment 7 by means of evenly spaced detents 10, or locking guides 10. An indent 3 on the upper surface of the outer compartment 11 facilitates the removal of the cylindrical lid section 8. The hinged door of the outer compartment 5 may be provided with a similar indent 4 to facilitate opening. The dispenser may be made from recycled chewing gum.
Description
Chewing Gum Dispenser and Disposa' Container:
Description:
This invention relates to a container for dispensing chewing gum and retaining used chewing gum prior to disposaL The outer hollow circular chamber (11) is designed to house new chewing gum pieces that are placed in the chamber through the hinged (2) door (5) and the inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7) is designed to house the used chewing gum pieces, which are retained by the hollow detachable cylindrical section (8). 0)
C
The irresponsible disposal of chewing gum presents a significant problem to governments and local councils who are responsible for the cleanliness of public areas. To clean chewing gum from public spaces is time consuming and carries substantial costs. This invention seeks to provide a receptacle for retaining used chewing gum prior to responsible disposal and recycling.
Currently people disposing of chewing gum either have to nd a suitable waste bin or resort to littering. The chewing gum does not bio-degrade and results in permanent soiling of public areas if disposed of irresponsibly. By providing a container that not only dispenses fresh chewing gum through hinged (2) door (5) but also has an inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7) for the responsible disposal of used chewing gum; this invention offers an easy alternative to littering.
The container is made from recycled chewing gum or other materials and therefore will reduce both the direct and indirect environmental impact of chewing gum and the chewing gum packaging. This will open up international markets currently closed to chewing gum manufacturers due to legislation to protect against the soiling of public areas.
The container is small and designed to be easily stored in clothing or handbags, whilst storing both new and used chewing gum simultaneously but separately in order to remain hygienic.
The invention seeks to reduce the costs associated with the cleaning up of used chewing gum from public spaces and provides chewing gum manufacturers with a responsible packaging solution.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
The present invention relates to a dispenser, in particular to a hand held chewing gum dispenser for dispensing tablet shaped chewing gum pieces and the coection of used chewing gum pieces and their responsible disposal.
According to the present invention there is provided a dispenser comprising a hollow flattened Q spherical body portion (1) with an inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7) extending to the full height of the dispenser for capturing used chewing gum, which is enclosed by a hollow detachable cylindrical section (8). The outer hollow circular chamber (11) for housing the new chewing gum pieces is accessed by a hinged (2) door (5) and is isolated from the inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7).
The inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7) has a sunken lipped guide (13) for the hollow detachable cylindrical section (8) to mate in to and lay flush with the top surface of the dispenser. The hollow detachable cylindrical section (8) has a proud lip (9) on its lower edge, which locks against raised intermittent evenly spaced locking guides (10) on the lower vertical edges of the inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7). There is an indent (3) on the upper flattened surface of the dispenser adjacent to the inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7) to facilitate the easy removal of the hollow detachable cylindrical section (8).
The hinged (2) door (5) has a sunken lipped guide (12) on its inner edge, which mates with a compatible proud lip (6) on the hollow flattened spherical body (1) as a door locking mechanism.
The indent (4) adjacent to the hinged (2) door (5) on the hollow flattened spherical body (1) facilitates the opening and closing.
A flat surface is provided at both top and bottom of the dispenser which enables the dispenser to stand upright on a flat supporting surface for ease of packaging and/or display.
The invention wifl now be described by way of example with reference to accompanying drawings in which; (Fig 1) is an exploded view of a dispenser in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention.
Referring firstly to (Fig 1) and then to (Fig 2), a body portion of a first embodiment of a dispenser is designated (1). The hoUow flattened spherical body (1) consists of two isolated hoUow compartments (7) and (11). The inner hoow cylindrical compartment (7) is closed by a hoUow detachable cylindrical section (8). The proud lip (9) on the hollow detachable cylindrical section (8) locks into the raised intermittent evenly spaced locking guides (10) on the inner hollow cylindrical compartment (7) ensuring that the hollow detachable cylindncal section (8) will remain securely fastened to the hollow flattened spherical body (1). The outer hollow circular chamber (11) has a hinged (2) door (5) that has a sunken locking guide (12) on its inner edge, which mates with a compatible proud lip (6) on the hollow flattened spherical body (1), which Q acts as a door locking mechanism. Indent (3) on the upper surface of the hollow flattened spherical body (1) facilitates the removal of the hollow detachable cylindrical section (8) and indent (4) facilitates the opening of the hinged (2) door (5).
In use, the dispenser is intended to be hand held and the hinged (2) door (5) can be opened by inserting a finger in the indent (4) for accessing the fresh chewing gum. Similarly a finger inserted in indent (3) allows easy removal of the hollow detachable cylindrical section (8) for storage of the used chewing gum.
