Abstract
A swimming pool filter comprises an ultra violet sterilization unit (a) and a silica sand filter (f). The UV sterilization unit comprises three hundred, one watt UV LEDs with a twenty four volt power source. The UV unit may be located in the lid of the filter, which may be a screw top lid. The filter body (d) may be made of a tough plastic and fiber glass, with a hole at the front.
Description
Description
Ultra Violet Swimming Pool Filter My design is for an innovative ultra violet sterilising swimming pool filter. Every swimming pool has to have some form of filter and the most common type is a silica sand filter UV sterilisers are also out on the market and have become increasingly popular. My design is to incorporate the two together utilising space in the plant room and giving direct sterilisation to the water as soon as it comes ri to the filter The UV unit will consist of an array of 300 1 watt UV LED's that will make up the lid of the filter (a) (All filters have a lid so that the sand can be changed) The power source will be 24v so no harm can come to anyone through electrocution.
The filter body (d) will be made of tough plastic and fibre glass with a sight hole at the front so that it is clearly visible when the UV unit is on or if the light source needs changing.
The UV lid unit will then be screwed on to the filter once full of sand, plugged in and there you have the two essential filtration Medias working together. (C) As with all swimming pool filters the pool water is pushed through the filter via a circulation pump. The water travels in to the filter through the inlet (e), the water then passes through the filter media (f) (Silica sand) which is bathed in UV light as with the rest of the filter and is discharged back out through a lateral set at the bottom of the filter and through the return line (G) The major benefits of having the UV source within the filter is that the full volume of water circulating through the system will be treated and also the bacteria in the sand itself will be neutralised so that recontamination can not occur
Introduction to Drawings
Ultra Violet Swimming Pool Filter An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Drawing 1 of 2 shows how the UV filter will work Drawing 2 of 2 shows the parts of the UV filter Ultra Violet Swimming Pool Filter Accompanying Sheet to Drawing 1 of 2 Here are the corresponding descriptions to drawing (1 of 2) (a) UV LED Light source incorporated within the filter lid (b) Direction of the UV light (c) UV LED light source attached to the filter tank (d) Filter tank shell (e) Direction of water entering the filter (f) Filter media (silica sand) (g) Direction of water exiting the filter (h) Stand and base of the filter Ultra Violet Swimming Pool Filter Accompanying Sheet to Drawing 2 of 2 Here are the corresponding descriptions to drawing (2 of 2) 1. Claims (3)
- Claims Ultra Violet Swimming Pool Filter * UV is effective against all micro-organisms * Kills bacteria, viruses, moulds and their spores * Direct sterilization as water comes in to the filter * Kills bacteria in the filter media itself reducing recontamination of the water * A reduction in chlorine usage * UV is not hazardous * Provides excellent water quality and a more pleasant bathing environment * Ultra long life light source due to being LED rather than tube lights * Reduces the amount of space required for housing pool plant equipment * Very easy to use, just plug in and switch on Amended Claims have been filed as followsCLAIMS1. Filtration apparatus for use with a swimming pool comprising a tank containing filter medium in the form of silica sand and having a space above the filter medium, the tank also having an inlet for pumped inflow of water to said space, an outlet for pumped discharge of water after passage through the filter medium, and a removable lid located for access to said space, characterised by provision of ultra violet (UV) light source mounted inside the lid so that UV light is directed onto the water as it enters the space and onto the silica sand filter medium.
- 2. Filtration apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein the ultra violet light source comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes.
- 3. Swimming pool filtration apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated by the companying drawings. a) a) a) (\J
