Abstract
A sealing system for sealing the sides of a roller blind fabric, the system comprising a first and second seals. The first seal for securing the sides of the fabric comprises a clip formed from a first and second side channel portions, the first and second side channel portions connected together via a pivot point such that in a first position they receive the blind fabric and upon pivoting to a second, locking, position they secure the fabric in a sealing arrangement. The second seal is a single piece of plastic, with one extending portion for securing to the wall or header and a second extending portion for contact with the blind fabric. The sealing system is manufactured from rigid PVC and flexible thermo plastic rubber. The system is designed to seal the edges of the blind fabric creating a thermal insulating air pocket between the window and blind.
Description
Description
Blind Seal -Window Insulation System
Background:
Energy conservation and prevention of heat loss are major environmental and financial concerns today. The heat loss through original single glazed windows remains a concern where either: * the original window cannot he replaced as it is in a conservation area or is a listed property * Occupiers choose to retain the original windows because of their character and appearance * Replacement with double glazing is not financially viable Fitting of conventional roller blinds is a long established industry intended primarily for sun shading. A roller blind has the potential to offer heat retention but is prevented from doing so as the top, bottom and sides are typically open allowing heat to escape.
The BlindSeal window insulation system is designed to facilitate sealing of the roller blind in order to increase heat retention. This is achieved by the double impact of preventing air escaping through the side of the blind whilst at the same time trapping air between the blind and the primary window therefore offering the double glazing' feature.
Key Features: The side channel (figs. I and 2.) comprises two parts that clamp together at a pivot point. The pivot is essential to the design as it enables: * Easier installation. The fixed part A can be mounted in position against the blind then, when secure, the moving part B can be pushed in place * Replacing of a blind that may have blown out of the channel during high air movement within the room e.g. by a door being close quickly.
* Easy cleaning of the channels to prevent the build up of dirt and dust The header seal part C (fig.6) comprises a single item for mounting horizontally across the roller blind mechanism at the head of the blind and across the bottom bar of the blind when it is pulled down to maximum distance.
All components have a combination of rigid PVC for strength and operation, and flexible rubber to allow compression against the roller blind fabric.
Fitting both parts will then effect a seal around the entire perimeter of the window blind.
Figure 5 shows views of the side channel components both in isolation and assembled. Figure 6 shows the header seal.
An addition feature of the system is the prevention of light from entering the ram from around the open edges of the blind
