Abstract

A twin bin is divided into a compartment for refuse and a compartment for material to be recycled. Each compartment may have a separate lid, Figure 1, both lids being hinged to a central structure between the compartments. Alternatively, Figure 3, a single swing lid may give access to one compartment or the other. The appropriate lid or lid end may be marked to indicate the intended contents. Each compartment may have a plastics liner or be linerless.

Description

Title: Twin Bin
Background
This invention relates to a domestic bin that contains two receptacles, one for refuse, and one for recycling. When discarding refuse, there is now a need to separate for the purpose of recycling.
Statement of invention
To accommodate this need, the present invention proposes a single bin unit that has 2 separate compartments with one top section lid that has two openings either touch top or swing lid, one for recyclables and one for refuse that is clearly marked for its purpose.
Advantages The two compartments in the bin will encourage and will make it easier for people to recycle rather than having two bins. It will also be a space saver for those who don't have adequate room in their living space.
Introduction to Drawings
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1.shows a front view of a bin with 2 two separate touch top lids that have marks indicating which side is for refuse and which side is for recycling; and Figure 2.shows a top view of a bin with the two touch top lids open enabling the two separate compartments to be seen; and Figure 3.shows a side view of the same bin with a different lid which is a swing' top lid which is marked such that each side can be identified as refuse and recyclable; and Figure 4.shows a top view of the swing top lid with the central top part of the lid forming the hinge, or pivot that allows the lid to swing enabling ease of use to the refuse or recyclable compartment again with appropriate markings indicating as such; and Figure 5.shows a cross section of the bin identifying the 2 separate compartments.
This invention relates to a bin that contains two separate compartments within, one interior side is for refuse and the other interior side is for recyclables. The lid of the bin is separated into two touch top lids that are marked as one side for refuse and the other side for recyclables, or a swing top lid that is also marked on one side for refuse and the other for recyclables.
With increasing pressure on society to recycle, there is a need for completely separate bins for waste. On the whole, people are recycling, however not thoroughly due to lack of convenience of waste storage, i.e. the separate bins needed may not be in the same area in the home, or there is a lack of space for more than one bin, or lack of knowledge on what to and what not to recycle, or even a lack of enthusiasm to recycle.
The busy lives that people lead brings its own problem of lack of time to organize waste in such a way that it can be separated so the issue of correct recycling is a problem.
The twin bin is designed to alleviate this problem in such a way that a singular bin is separated into two compartments which allows recycling to become more convenient whilst saving room in the home with the two lids of the bin indicating which side is which either recycling or refuse.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In figure 1. the front view of the bin (I) is sizeable enough to take two compartments so that each home can accommodate it in the same place that they keep their main bin at present. The two touch top lids (2) contained at the top of the bin are spaced in such a manner so that refuse and recyclables can be placed into the separate compartments with ease. The marks on either side of the lids (3) enable the user to identify which side is for recyclables and which side is for refuse. This is to help avoid confusion as to where to place the items for the bin.
The compartments themselves can be empty or can have plastic receptacles contained within them depending on consumer taste.
In figure 2. the top view of the bin can be seen with the both lids open (1) which then reveals the two compartments (2) and (3).
Figure 3. shows a side view of the same bin with a different lid (2) which is a swing top lid (3) which swings in such a way that each side when pushed will open into its corresponding compartment again either for refuse or recyclables. Each side of the swing top lid is clearly marked (4) for recyclables or refuse.
In figure 4. a top view of the swing top lid can be seen showing the separate markings (I) to aid in identifying which side of the lid to use for what commodity i.e. refuse or recyclable. The swing top lid (2) is designed to accommodate the right proportion of space needed beneath for each compartment so as not to have the wrong item go into the wrong compartment by accident. The hinge or pivot (4) allows the swing lid to operate and (3) indicates the ridge of the swing top.
Figure 5. shows the two separate compartments inside the singular bin (1).

Claims (2)

  1. Claims 1. A single bin unit that is separated into two compartments
within with one top section lid that has two openings that access either compartment respectively one compartment is for refuse and the other compartment is for recyclables.
  2. 2. A single bin according to claim 1. that has the top section lid that has two openings that are marked in such a way that each opening identifies whether that opening is for refuse or recyclables.
