Abstract
Apparatus for preventing incoming water from continuing to pour into a burst water tank comprises a closed container (4) mounted for vertical movement within a cylinder (1), the container being connected via a linkage (16) to a ball cock and inlet valve. In the event of a burst, the container will descend within the cylinder and thus close the inlet valve.
Description
TANK CONTROL SYSTEM.
THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A PIECE OF APPARATUS WHICH IS FITTED TO AN
EXISTING DOMESTIC/ COMMERCIAL MAIN WATER TANK IN PARALLEL TO THE
EXISTING BALL COCK ARM.
THE OBJECT IS TO STOP INCOMING MAINS WATER ENTERING THE MAIN HEADER TANK,
IF IT OR ASSOCIATED PIPEWORK BURSTS.
THE AIM OF THIS INVENTION IS TO PREVENT INCOMING WATER FROM CONTINUING
TO POUR INTO A BURST TANK OR ASSOCIATED PIPEWORK.
THIS INVENTION PROVIDES A DEVICE FITTED TO A MAINS WATER TANK TO STOP
WATER FROM ENTERING IN THE EVENT OF A BURST.
ALTHOUGH THE DEVICE IS MADE FROM METAL AND PLASTIC MATERIALS, IT IS
PREFERABLE IF IT IS MADE WHOLLY OR IN PART IN PLASTIC MATERIAL, OR A COMBINATION OF THE TWO.
A PREFERRED EDIBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED WITH
REFERENCE TO THE ACCObIPANYING DRAWINGS IN WHICH:
FIGURE 1 SHOWS A SIDE VIEW OF THE WHOLE DEVICE.
FIGURE 2 SHOWS A PLAN VIEW OF THE WHOLE DEVICE.
AS SHOWN IN FIGURE t, THE DEVICE COMPRISES OF A CYLINDER 1 WITH A SUBSIDUARY
ARM 2 BRAZED OR SOLDERED ONTO 1. ATTACHED TO ARM 2 IS A BRANCH 26 WHICH IS
ALSO ATTACHED TO 16.
THIS BRANCH 26 ALLOWS PIVOTAL MOVEMENT OF THE ARM 16 INSIDE THE SLOT 14.
FIGURE 1 ALSO SHOWS THE ARM 16 IS ENTERED THROUGH THE SLOT 14 AND CONNECTED
TO THE CONTAINER 4.
WHEN THE CONTAINER 4 IS CORRECTLY WEIGHTED AT 8ozs OF LEAD FINGERS, IT WILL
REST JUST BELOW THE WATERLINE OF A FULL WATER TANK 38. IN THE EVENT OF A BURST
TANK OR ASSOCIATED PIPEWORK, THE CONTAINER 4 WILL GRADUALLY DESCEND AND
RESTRAIN THE INCOMING WATER BY LIFTING 21, WHICH ALSO LIFTS THE ORIGINAL
BALL COCK ARM 33 THEREBY CLOSING THE WATER VALVE.
ALL OF THE ABOVE WILL ONLY COME INTO OPERATION WHEN A BURST OCCURS, IN
NORMAL WORKING CONDITIONS THE EVERY DAY HOUSEHOLD NEEDS ARE MET AS USUAL.
IN ITS WORKING FORMAT THE CYLINDER 1 IS FIXED TO THE BRACKET 6 WHICH IS
SECURED TO AN EXISTING WATER TANK 38 BY TWO NYLON BOLTS 9. INSIDE THE CYLINDER 1 FITS A CONTAINER 4 CONNECTED TO AN ARM 16 THE CONTAINER 4 REMAINS STATIC
IN THE CYLINDER 1, UNTIL A BURST OCCURS AND THEN DROPS DOWN WITH THE
ESCAPING WATER, THUS LIFTING THE ORIGINAL BALL COCK AND VALVE 33,BY WAY
OF 21, THEREBY CLOSING THE WATER VALVE 33.
TO LOAD CONTAINER 4, ARM 16 IS RELEASED FROM BRANCH 26, IT IS ENTERED INTO
SLOT 14, AND PUSHED UP THE TUBE 1 UNTIL ITS CLEAR OF THE TUBE
NUMBERS 18 AND 19 ARE FOLLOWED IN THE TEXT, THE ARM IS THEN LOWERED DOWN
THE TUBE 1
THE CONTAINER 4 IS LOADED WITH 37, FIGURE 5 IS RE ENGAGED WITH 4, AND THE
ARM 16 IS THEN LIFTED BACK UP CYLINDER 1, AND RECONNECTED WITH 26.
