Abstract

231,735. Powell, A. D., Forster, F., and Lake & Elliot, Ltd. Aug. 14, 1924. Jacks. - The crutch 18, Fig. 1, is mounted on a hollow screw-threaded member 14 which is slidably but non- rotatably mounted on a sleeve 8 which is similarly mounted in the casing 1. The member 14 is engaged by a nut 13 which rests on the sleeve 8 and is rotated by a bevel gear 12. The bottom of the sleeve 8 is formed as a nut and engages a screw-threaded member 7 which is actuated by gears 4, 5. Recesses 6, 6<a> of identical shape and size are formed in the gears 5, 12 for the reception of an operating handle. In a modification, Fig. 5, a screw-threaded member 19 is mounted in a sleeve 20, one face of which is formed as a rack 21. The rack is engaged by a pinion 22 which is driven through worm gearing. In this form also, a single operating handle is used.
