Abstract
A vaginal speculum sheath which is placed over a bivalved speculum during pelvic examinations. Preferably the sheath is open at both ends A, B. The body of the sheath C may be made from latex or rubber. The ends of the sheath A, B may be thicker than the body C, and the sheath may also be lubricated. The sheath may be placed over the speculum before insertion into the vagina to enable a clearer view of the cervix.
Description
Description 2388547
Vagina speculum sheath This invention relates to a bivalve speculum sheath, which may be used by doctors during pelvic examinations to have a good exposure of the cervix.
Women have pelvic examinations performed by their doctors for cervical smear test and colposcopy using a vagina bivalve speculum. In some cases, it is difficult to have a good view of the cervix (neck of womb). This is because of the vagina mucosa (skin) falls into the space between the bivalve speculum preventing proper view of the cervix.
This invention is to provide a speculum sheath, which allows good view of the cervix and makes vagina examination thorough and easy.
Preferably this sheath is made of rubber or latex or a combination of both.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanied drawing in which: Figure 1: shows a side view of the speculum sheath when out stretched.
Figure 2: is a section showing the proximal end of the sheath.
Figure 3: is a section showing the distal end of the sheath As shown in fig 1 the sheath comprises of two open ends (A & B) and a body (C). When in use, the sheath is worn unto a bivalve speculum before insertion into the vagina. When the blades of the speculum are opened, the body of the sheath will provide adequate support to prevent the vagina mucosa falling between the blades into the view of the examiner. This will allow a good view of the cervix during pelvic examinations.
Claims (5)
1. A vaginal speculum sheath that is worn unto a bivalved vagina speculum for use during pelvic examinations to expose the cervix.
2. A vagina speculum sheath in claim 1 with open ends (A & B).
3. A vagina speculum sheath as in claims 1 and 2 with a body (C) between the open ends.
4. A vagina speculum sheath as in any preceding claim which is made from latex or rubber or a combination of these materials.
5. A vagina speculum sheath substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanied drawing.
