Abstract

235,641. Hoal, J. C., and Metals Production, Ltd. March 19, 1924. Agglomerating processes; dry processes of extracting and refining copper and other metals.- Wet metalliferous materials, particularly oxidized copper compounds, such as the precipitate obtained by the process described in Specification 185,242, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], are uniformly mixed, either with or without previous dewatering, with a liquid combustible binding medium such as wood tar or coal tar, so that they become coated with binding medium and agglomerated so as to be readily separable from the water. The prepared material, after separation from water by draining, pressing or otherwise, may be fed directly to a smelting furnace, yielding, in the case of the copper precipitate above referred to, a copper containing some cuprous oxide; this can be further purified by poling.
