Abstract
A flat pack storage container comprises a bottom, sides and a lid. The individual units comprise fixing channels and beads which allow easy assembly.
Description
2353024 MULTIBIN The invention relates to a storage bin of the metal kind
with a design and method of construction which enables it to be assembled by the user.
Traditional bins of this type are used to store animal feedstuff horse rugs in stableyards and amongst other uses bulk materials.Accordingly by their very nature they are bulky items for a supplier to stock and are difficult for the consumer to transport home. This invention enables self (consumer) assembly thus allowing the product to be " Flat Packed" thus reducing considerably its bulk.
An object of this invention is to enable assembly of the bin from prefabricated components by an average person and therefore a key feature of this is the simplicity of the design and constructional method of the components in order to achieve this. This invention thus aRows, for a flat pack supply avoiding the bulk associated with traditional bins. (flat pack means in this context an object of assembly by the consumer.lt is common in the furniture industry) Accordingly this invention provides a bin of demountable construction. The method of interlinking and locking the components is the essence of this patent application.
The invention preferably is made from a galvanised steel but any metal or plastic or other material capable of being formed to the configures of the joints could be used A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings Figl and Fig2 I.
Multlibin page 2 Fig I shows the general arrangement of the bin with an exploded view of the component parts. The components are -Rear Panel (A) with connected Lid (B) Front Panel (G) Side panel (C) Floor panel (H) Nut and bolt (F) Fig 2 (I)shows the Rear Panel (A) together with the attached Lid (B) laid flat on a table for assembly of the components.Side panel (C) has two 90 degree folded sides as shown under detail(D),this edge is inserted into Rear Panel (A) "U" Lip folded edge as shown in detail (E) and located by Nut and bolt(F).The top edge of side panel (C),front panel(G) and rear panel (A) have a safe edge formed by folding the material bacon itself- Top safety edge (L) Fig2(2) shows the front panel (G) placed onto the 90 degree folded edges of side panel (C) and by manipulating the sides engage the Folded edge (D) into the "U" Lip (E) of Front Panel (G).Then secure by Bolt and nut (F) through preformed holes.
Fig2(3) shows the next sequence to locate the floor panel (H).The floor panel (H) is angled and placed inside the bin with its 90 degree folded edges (D) (4 sides) foremost to engage the "U" Lip joints (E) at the bottom of the side, front and rear panels.Bolts and nuts (F) are installed through preformed holes to secure the joint.
The preferred method of locldng the joint is the nut and bolt F but it may also be some other form of fastener such as a self tapping screw, rivet metal clip or indent adhesive or other device.
Claims (4)
- ClaimsI A storage bin constructed from pre formed panels which allow the item to be assembled or disassembled by a user without any special skill.
- 2 The panels referred to in I above are of a special size and shape to allow the linking together and locking of the component panels into the final product.
- 3 The shape of the panels include "U" Lip Folded edges and interlinking connecting edges in an arrangement which allows for the item to be formed into the bin using a front panel, a rear panel (with lid attached),two end panels and a floor panel.
- 4 The shape and form of the disassembled collection of panels allows them to be bundled together in a convenient flat package.
