Abstract
A holiday travel extension reel has a socket capable of accepting the standard British three-pin plug joined to a continental two-pin plug by a length of two or three core electrical cable. The twin plug will have pins 3 that are positionally adjustable by for example one of them being biassed by springs or rubber 4 so that pressure on point 5 causes variation in the position of that pin relative to the other. <IMAGE>
Description
HOLIDAY TRAVEL EXTENSION
This invention relates to a light weight travel extension for use on the Continent
The existing Continental plug consists of a plug with various twin plugs capable of being inserted into a
Continental socket and into this plug is engaged the standard rritish 3 pin plug. The problem with this system ls the lack of suitable sockets to be found in the average Costinental Accomodation most of these are located in inaccessible plaess
The Holiday Travel Extension is designed to overcome these problets by allowing the user flexibility in socket placement. This will @e ackieved sy separating the Continental plug @rom the 3 pin socket by a length of 2 or 3 core flex.
A specdfie embodiment of this invention will now be desoribed by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig.1 illustrates the plan view ofthe reel showing the 3 pin socket.
Fig.2 Illustrates the reel section A - A It will be noted that when not in use the reel is kept closed by the screw thread 1. When the end is unscrewed it can be pulled out until arrested by the end stop 2. revealing the electric cable coiled around the central drum which houses the electrios for the three pin socket. When not in use the plug desoribed in Fig.3 will be housed within the framework of the reel.
Fig 3 illustrates the Continental plug and the gap between the pins 3. represents the widest gap encountered on the Continent. This width is maintained by the pressure exerted by the coils of spring or rubber 4.
This gap can be narrowed by applying pressure at point 5. it is considered that a cable of approximately 3 metres will he sufficient and the cable should be capable of carrying a current of 5 amps which will be more then sufficient to accomodate all electrical travel goods on the manket.
A cheaper version, which has already been tested suooessfully abroad, would consist of a 3 pin socket attached to the adjustable continental plug by the
length of 2 or 3 metres of electrical cable and carried in a pontainet made of fabris or soft plastle.
Claims (4)

2. An adjustable plug as described in claim 1 adjustable by coiled spring or rubber which will fit any width of
Continental 2 hole socket.
3 A socket as desoribed in claim 1 housed in a reel which will also contain the oable and adjustable socket.
4. A travel extension as desorioad in claim 1 contained in a plastic or @abric container @er ease of transpert.
