Abstract
A portable seat and support for a computer consists of a foldable seat 6 together with a stand which holds the computer. The stand and seat can be separated, the stand collapsed, the seat and struts 1a, 2 folded up and wheels on strut 2h moved into position so that the seat can be moved around. In use, the seat is unfolded and the computer support is secured to the seat and erected. In the folded position, the seat has hooks which can accommodate a briefcase or a computer.
Description
COMBINED PORTABLE SEAT/PERSONAL COMPUTER SUPPORT/CASE CARRY
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The invention is in the field of seats and stands or supports on which various articles can be supported,in particular, though not exclusively, personal computers.
SUMMARY
This invention relates to a portable personal computer support combined with a fold up seat and case carry, which can be mobile.
The seat can be folded up and wheeled around at the same time supporting a briefcase or other case, which may, though does not necessarily have to, contain the laptop or other computer and also the computer support.
On locating a suitable position for use, the user removes the brief/other case (if any), retracts the wheels from ground contact, and extends the seat. The user then inserts and secures the computer support and fixes the stabilising strut below. The computer is placed and fixed in the "tray" prior to use.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Fig 1 shows in perspective the unit as a whole, including the computer support/"tray",the seat with its two main frame members, and the stabilising strut, all fully extended in the final position for use.
Fig 2 shows the seat folded up with wheels in the "wheeling" position and clips to support a case.
Fig 2a shows a detail of the connexion for the retraction of the wheels.
Fig 3 shows a detail of the junction of the two main frame members for the seat;the junction of the member which terminates to receive the computer "tray";the sliding mechanism to the underside of the seat.
Fig 4 & a show a plan and elevation of the computer "tray" and the sliding metal angle members for the computer "tray".
Fig 5 shows a detail of the connexion of the rod connected to the tray which enables the angle of inclination of the tray to be adjusted to suit the user.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
With continued reference to the drawings 1/4,2/4,3/4,4/4, the frame containing the seat comprises, a tubular cross section (for example) member 1, shaped as shown, with the two "feet" la being protected by rubber caps, to prevent the unit from sliding on, for example a slippery floor surface.
An inverted T shaped member 2 (whose horizontal/floor part 2h has, at either end, similar rubber caps) is connected to 1 by, for example, a nut and bolt nb.
As shown in fig 3, two suitable washers wl,w2 are interposed such that 1 can rotate on 2 at point nb.
At two points along 2h in fig 1 are fixed two wheels which can be retracted when not in use as shown in fig 2a.
Member 2 terminates at the seat end in a "T" shape as shown in fig 3.
This end fits underneath the bar b itself affixed under the preformed seat 6.As 1 rotates on 2 at nb, the "T" slides under bar b.The seat then moves from a vertical (closed) position to a horizontal "open" or available for sitting position.
The preferred shape of the top surface seat 6 is as shown in fig 1 to enable member 1 to fit reasonably flush with it when the unit is in the position shown in fig 2.
The rear part of the seat (considered as when someone is sitting thereon) is connected to member 1 by means of a nut, and a bolt, sufficiently long to run the full length of the seat.Suitable washers are positioned at the junction of this seat with member 1.
When the unit is opened a stabilising strut 5b is affixed to t as shown in fig 1.
The personal computer support itself figs 4,4a,5 is inserted into the open end of the tubular cross section member t , whose shape and connexion to 2 is as shown in figs 1 & 3.The height of the support, relative to the user sitting on the seat, can be adjusted by means of a suitable locking screw which also fixes the support in the open end of the t as shown in fig 1.
The construction of the personal computer support is as now described and shown in figs 4,4a,5.
The bottom of the "tray" may be formed from a single rectangular metal sheet 9.Fastened to the bottom is a right angled section metal member 10.
At the top and botch sides of the sheet a slit 11 is cut.
3 right angle section members 12a,12b,12c which have small bolts already connected are positioned on top of the metal sheet such tat the bolts pass through the slits.Wing nuts are fastened to the bolts underneath the "tray".
In order to position the computer on the "tray" the wing nut wn in fig 5 must be tightened first after the "tray" has been positioned in an approximately horizontal plane.
Then the the wing nuts of the metal angle members are loosened sufficiently to move 12a,12b,12c away from the centre lines of the metal sheet, in order to create sufficient space to accommodate the computer
When the computer is placed on the "tray',,they are then moved back into contact with the sides of the computer case and tightened by hand on the underside, thus gripping the sides of the computer case, and holding it in position.
The inclination of the whole tray is controlled underneath by a wing nut wn attached to a rod r in fig 1, and bracket (itself attached to the tray) as shown in fig 5.
