Abstract

A plant protector forms a physical barrier around a plant or group of plants; a vertical section 1 is set into the soil 2, the overhanging rim 3 forming a barrier which prevents slugs and snails and other creeping insects gaining access to the protected plants. Various rims are illustrated and sodium chloride may be applied to the underside of the rim. Protector may be incorporated into plant containers, pots, tubs, seed trays. <IMAGE>

Description

PLANT PROTECTOR This invention relates to a plant protector Slugs, snails and other creeping insects can cause a great deal of damage to vulnerable plants.
Various existing methods are used to protect plants they include: poisonous pellets, chemical sprays, beer traps, parasitic insects and removal by hand.
Most methods can be expensive and time consuming as they have to be repeated regularly to be effective. The poison baits and sprays can also be dangerous to other creatures.
The plant protector is free from harmful chemicals, long lasting and labour saving.
According to the present invention there is provided a plant protector comprising of a vertical surface set in the soil with an overhanging rim on the side opposite the protected plants. The plant protector forms a continous barrier around a single plant or group of plants.
The shape of the overhanging rim is so designed to prevent slugs, snails and other creeping insects gaining access to the plant.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure I shows a section through the plant protector in position around a plant; Figure 2 shows a variety of rim sections.
Referring to the drawing the plant protector comprises a continous vertical section I set into the soil 2 with an overhanging rim 3 and the protected plant 4 this provides protection to a single plant.
In order to protect a group of plants the plant protector can be in sections either straight or curved and clipped together to provide a continous barrier around the plants.
An added deterrent to slugs and snails is a coating of common salt (sodium cloride) applied to the underside of the rim.
The plant protector may also be incorporated into plant containers, pots, tubs and seed trays.

Claims (4)

The shape of the overhanging rim is so designed as to prevent slugs, snails and other creeping insects gaining access to the plant.
  2. 2 A plant protector as claimed in Claim I wherein an added deterrent of common salt (sodium cloride) is applied to the underside of the rim.
  3. 3 A plant protector as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 wherein to include application to any container of plants.
  4. 4 A plant protector substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-2 of the accompanying drawing.
