Abstract

A substrate 1 containing a two dimensional image 3 is held adjacent to a transparent or partially transparent hologram 2 forming a sandwich construction so that the two dimensional image may be viewed through the hologram allowing the simultaneous viewing of the holographic image 4, thus presenting the visual interplay of the two types of image within a single item. <IMAGE>

Description

COLOURGRAM This invention relates to the colourgram which is a novel decorative holographic device.
Holograms are often used for imaging three dimensional objects or designs and are marketed as decorative or artistic items. Such holograms, although often originally transparent, are usually backed with an opaque or reflective material or similar layer to enhance the quality of the holographic image. The present invention seeks to utilise the hologram's inherent transparency to create a novel visually decorative device.
According to the present invention there is provided a two dimensional graphical coloured image comprising a photograph or print or picture which is bonded to or laminated to a hologram which is transparent or partially transparent. The two dimensional graphical image is viewed through the hologram while the holographic image may be viewed simultaneously, allowing an interplay of the two and three dimensional images, thus providing a novel decorative or artistic item.
The hologram may be of any form provided that it is of sufficient transparency. The hologram may be embossed into a plastic or other material, or recorded in silver halide materials, photographic materials, photopolymer or dichromated gelatine materials.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the sandwich type construction of the colourgram.
Figure 2 shows the construction of the colourgram in elevation.
Referring to the drawing a colourgram, by way of example, comprises a colour photograph or print on a card substrate 1 which is held adjacent to a hologram 2 recorded in a transparent medium such as a photographic emulsion. The photograph or print is bonded to the hologram, by way of example, by a transparent double-sided adhesive material to form a sandwich construction which allows the photograph or print to be viewed 5 through the hologram while light from a light source 6 falls onto the hologram 2 to form a holographic image 4 which may be viewed simultaneously with the photographic or printed image 3, thus allowing the visual interplay of the two types of image within a single item.

Claims (7)

  1. A A colourgram comprising a substrate containing a two dimensional image which substrate is held adjacent to a transparent or partially transparent hologram.
  2. 2 A colourgram as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the two dimensional image is viewed through the hologram allowing the holographic image to be viewed at the same time as the two dimensional image.
  3. 3 A colourgram as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the hologram is viewed through the two dimensional image allowing the holographic image to be viewed at the same time as the two dimensional image.
  4. 4 A colourgram as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the two dimensional image comprises a colour photograph or printed matter or other picture.
  5. 5 A colourgram as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the hologram comprises a hologram recorded in a photographic or photopolymer or other photosensitive media or which hologram is embossed or moulded into any plastic material or other material.
  6. 6 A colourgram as claimed in any preceding Claim wherein the substrate containing a two dimensional image is held adjacent to the hologram by means of adhesive or adhesive material or lamination or clips or any other construction.
  7. 7. A colourgram substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
