Abstract
226,543. Dobbelstein, O. Dec. 18, 1923, [Convention date]. Roasting.-Apparatus for roasting ores comprises a slowly-rotating drum divided into radial pockets or chambers b, b<1>, Figs. 1 and 2, for the reception of the material to be roasted and the heating-medium respectively. The material falls from the hopper d, or is pressed by the reciprocating plunger f, into the chambers b and is retained therein by a perforated casing until it falls into the discharge shoot g. The heating-medium is introduced through the pipe n, which is provided with baffles, and is discharged after passing through the chambers b<1>, which are connected through spaces i. The gases generated during the roasting escape into a duct c. In a modification, the chambers extend over the whole width of the drum, and the heating-medium is introduced through an eccentrically arranged pipe which is connected to a fixed head adjacent to the drum. In another modification, the pockets are shallow so that the material is formed into briquettes as, for example. in the treatment of coal, the residue being coke. In this case, the material is pressed into the pockets by rollers k, Fig. 3. The pockets may be heated by gas burners connected to a central gas pipe.
