Description
A DEVICE FOR WASHING ANIMALS
THIS INVENTION concerns a device for washing animals and is particularly intended to provide a convenient means whereby a dog owner may retain and wash an animal single handed. Most dog owners are well aware of the difficulties of keeping an animal still with one hand whilst attempting to wash it using a hose pipe with the other. Whilst most dogs appear to enjoy being showered it is extremely difficult to keep them still.
According to the present invention there is provided a device for washing animals, comprising an enclosed chamber having at least one opening for access to the interior thereof, one or more elongate ducts or pipes extending within the chamber and having apertured walls, and means defining an inlet communicating with the or each duct or pipe for the supply of water thereto.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation partly in section of a device made in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly in section, of the device
and Fig. 3 is an end view taken in the direction of arrow A in Fig. 1.
The device essentially consists of a rectilinear box 10, open at one end 11 to provide an internal chamber 12. A strip curtain or the like 13 of plastics material may be provided across the opening 11. Alternatively, this may be in the form of a sliding flap.
Within the chamber 12 there is an array of perforated pipes 15 which may extend lengthwise along the underside of the top and along the bottom of the box, and down the length of the corners of the closed end 14. Preferably, the pipes all communicate with a single -hose nozzle 17 which passes through the wall of the box to the exterior thereof, preferably on the closed end wall 14.
A hinged or sliding flap 18 may be provided in one or more side walls of the box to enable a user's hands to be placed inside the box when in use.
Preferably, the base of the box is provided with a perforated platform 20 on which the dog may stand and which allows drainage of water into a trough 21 which communicates with a drain aperture or simply with the open end of the box.
The pipework within the box may simply be a perforated flexible hose or alternatively rigid slotted pipes which, during manufacture, may be angled to direct jets of water inwardly towards the central longitudinal region of the box, as illustrated by arrows 23.
If required, a small reservoir 24 may be connected to the inlet nozzle 17 to contain shampoo or other treatment substance.
It will be appreciated that once a dog is contained within the chamber it may be showered clean in a convenient manner without the owner getting wet.
If required, warm air supply fans or ducts may also be associated with the box to dry the animal after washing.
Conveniently, the device will be made from a lightweight plastics material for ease of handling and of drying out after use.
Claims (12)
1. A device for washing animals, comprising an enclosed chamber having at least one opening for access to the interior thereof, one or more elongate ducts or pipes extending within the chamber and having apertured or perforated walls, and means defining an inlet communicating with the or each duct or pipe for the supply of water thereto.
2. A device according to Claim 1, including a closure member for said opening.
3. A device according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the closure member is a strip curtain suspended from the top of the chamber at one end thereof.
4. A device according to any preceding claim, wherein said one or more elongate ducts or pipes are provided in the form of an array of perforated pipes which extend lengthwise along the underside of the top and along the bottom of the chamber and down the length of the corners of one closed end thereof.
5. A device according to Claim 4, wherein the pipes communicate with a single inlet nozzle which passes through the wall of the chamber for connection thereto of a hose pipe.
6. A device according to any preceding claim including a flap in at least one side wall of the chamber which may be opened to enable the user's hands to be placed inside the box when in use.
7. A device according to any preceding claim, wherein the base of the chamber is provided with a perforated platform on which an animal may stand, and which allows drainage of water into a trough communicating with the access opening.
8. A device according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein said one or more elongate ducts or pipes are provided in the form of rigid slotted pipes angled to direct jets of water inwardly towards a central longitudinal region of the chamber.
9. A device according to Claim 5, including a reservoir connected to the inlet nozzle to contain and dispense shampoo or other treatment substance.
10. A device according to any preceding claim, including warm air supply fans or ducts to enable drying of an animal after washing.
11. A device according to any preceding claim, formed at least predominantly from a lightweight plastics material.
12. A device for washing animals, substantially as hereinbefore described, with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
