Abstract
A self striking feeder has a perforated body capable of holding fish bait. Cemented to the feeder is a post 4 along which slides a head 3 attached to a spring. The apparatus is set by sliding the head to the end of the post, thereby tensioning the spring, where it is held by a pawl-lever 5. A baited hook is attached to the lever and when this is taken by a fish, the lever-paw is released and the spring retracts the head to drive the hook into the fish. <IMAGE>
Description
AUTOMATIC SELF STRIKING FEEDER
This invention relates to a self striking feeder.
Feeders are a device used by anglers. They comprise a perforated cylinder fitted with detachable caps. The anglers reel line is fastened to one end, the hook length to the other. The feeder is filled with bait and cast out into the river where it sinks to the river bed and the bait spills out thus attracting fish.
The angler waits for a movement from the rod tip, denoting a fish take. He then tightens the line sharply and hopes to hook his fish. He has more "misses" than "hits".
The present invention will improve the anglers catch rate. It comprises a feeder to which is cemented a post. A sliding head travels along the post but is connected to the feeder body by a spring. The device is set by sliding the head to the end of the post, thus tensioning the spring. The head is held in this position by a combined pawl and lever. A pull on the lever and the spring retracts and drives the hook into the fish.
The specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which the device is shown in the "rest" position.
The sliding head (3) is moved along the post (4) until the pawl (5) engages in the recessed portion at the end of the post, the head is held there under tension by a spring (not shown).
A pull on the lever (5) will release the pawl fran the recess, and the sliding head is sharply retracted, hooking the fish.
Claims (6)
1) The self striking feeder is comprised of a perforated cylinder, fitted with
detachable end caps, to this cylinder is cemented a post.
2) A sliding head travels along the post, as claimed in claim 1, but is connected
to the feeder body by a spring.
3) The device is set by sliding the head to the end of the post as claimed
in claim I and 2 thus tensioning the spring.
4) The head is held in this position by a combined pawl and leaver.
5) A pull on the lever (as claimed in claim I ) will release the pawl, and
the head sharply retracts.
6) A self striking feeder as described with reference to the enclosed drawing.
