224,740. Aiken, T. L. Dec. 12, 1923. Butt joints. - A fluid-tight joint between pipe flanges 2, 3 is made by providing a projecting ring 4 with a pointed outer edge 4<a> on the flange 3; the ring 4 bears on the surface of the flange 2, and is drawn into effective jointing contact therewith bv means of bolts 5. If desired, the open portion 11 between the flanges 2, 3 may be filled in with bituminous material &c. for excluding air and water.
