Abstract
A bag open to atmosphere solely through a mouth valve that is so constructed that sustained breathing can be effected therethrough, to alleviate or abort migraine.
Description
SPECIFICATION
A breathing device to abort migraine
The following is a description of a device for the
prevention of migraine attacks. It consists of a bag 20 cm wide, although the width range may vary from 4-120 cms, and 25 cms long, although the range of length may vary between 4 cms - 160 cms.
To one end of the bag is attached a mouth valve, through which the subject will breathe. This is made out of nylon though other materials may be used.
The bag is made out of laminated polythene, polyterepthalate, (a combination of materials highly resistant to carbon dioxide diffusion) although other plastics, laminated or non-laminated, or other materials, again laminated or non-laminated may be used. Crystals for the absorption of moisture may be inserted into the mouth valve or bag.
By breathing in and out of the bag subjects will be able to abort their migraine attacks. This will take twenty minutes, though some subjects will take more and some less. At intervals they should take a small breath of fresh airto prevent suffocation or side-effects. A small inlet for fresh air intake can be included into the bag or mouth valve.
This device may be used to allay other headaches, besides migraine. (see Dexter S.L. (1982) Rebreathing aborts migraine attacks British Medical Journal 284 (1982) p. 312).
Claims (11)
