Abstract
Pure ether is prepared by dissolving benzidine or a homologue or substitution product thereof in crude anhydrous ether at ordinary or increased pressure, allowing the ether salts of crystallization to form and regenerating the ether by heat from the separated crystals. Thus, finely-powdered benzidine is dissolved, preferably under pressure, in boiling crude ether which has been rendered anhydrous by treatment with quicklime, or sodium or potassium hydroxide; the crystals of benzidine with half a molecule of ether which form on cooling are separated, dried and heated to 100 DEG C. in an atmosphere of hydrogen, when pure ether distils off and is collected.
