Description

SPECIFICATION Barbecue The present invention relates to a barbecue.

In accordance with the present invention there is provided a barbecue comprising a support column on which at least one combustion section is removably mounted, a tray being provided for the or each combustion section which is removably mounted on the column at a location above its associated combustion section and at any one of a plurality of height positions above the said section.

Preferably three combustion sections of equal size are provided Conveniently each of the three combustion sections is purchased on a separate occasion as kit in order to spread the total cost of the barbacue.

The barbecue may be portable and for this purpose a pair of wheels may be mounted at the base of the column with a handle diametrically opposite at a higher location on the column, thus enabling the barbecue to be wheeled when the handle is lifted and then pushed or pulled.

An optional feature of the invention is a cover.

In the preferred embodiment, the cover is of hemispherical shape and covers all three combustion sections.

The support column may have a cross-section of any convenient shape. In the preferred embodiment however the column has the same number of sides as the number of combustion sections which it is to carry or is eventually to carry. Hence, in the preferred embodiment since there are three combustion sections the column is of triangular cross-section.

The invention will now be described further by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing the single figure of which is an exploded perspective view of a barbecue in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention.

The barbecue consists of a support column 10 of triangular cross-section which is mounted vertically in a wheeled trolley arrangement fixed rigidly to the lower end of the column. The trolley arrangement consists of a mild steel member 12 bent to a generally cruciform shape. Two limbs of the member 12 are secured to the column 10 by bolts, two of which 14 can be seen. Two of the three ends of the member 12 mount a spindle therebetween upon which wheels 1 6 are carried.

The third free end of the member 12 carries a spacer 1 8 which enables the member 12 to be parallelly spaced from the ground thus allowing the column 10 to stand vertically.

A handle 20 is fixed to the upper end of the column in alignment with the third limb of the member 12. Thus, by lifting the handle 20, the barbecue may be tilted so that all the weight is carried by the wheels 16. When tilted in this manner, the barbecue may be wheeled between desired locations either by pushing or pulling it.

Three combustion sections 22 are removably mounted to the upper end of the column 10 by nuts and bolts, one of which may be seen at 24.

Each combustion section extends arcuately for 1 20c, the inner end of the section matching the width of one side of the column support.

Each combustion section is in the form of a hollow container to receive fuel, normally charcoal, and has a perforated base 26 to provide an air supply to the fuel.

A grill tray 26 is associated with each combustion section. Each tray may be carried by the column 10 at any one of a number of positions above its respective combustion section thus enabling the height of the tray above its associated combustion section to be adjusted.

A plurality of vertically disposed generally Lshaped brackets each forming a hanger 28 are provided on the column 10. Each hanger is pressed from the plane of a side of the column.

The part of each grill 26 adjacent the respective side of the column is bent to form a hook 30 which fits over one or other of the hangers 28 in accordance with, for example, the nature of the food to be barbecued.

The top of the support column 10 is closed by a cap 32 of steel, and can also provide a support for one or more warming trays above.

A cover 34 of hemispherical form is provided to enable food products to be barbecued in a restricted volume, if desired.

2. A barbecue as claimed in claim 1 in which the support column is multi-sided, a combustion section and tray being associated with each side.

3. A barbecue as claimed in claim 2 in which the support column is of triangular cross section.

4. A barbecue as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 in which each combustion section is a hollow container for receiving fuel and has a perforated base to enable air to be supplied to the fuel.

5. A barbecue as claimed in any one of claims to 4 in which the part of each grill tray adjacent a side of the support column is bent to form a hook which fits over one of a plurality of hangers on the column.

6. A barbecue as claimed in claim 5 when appendant to claim 2 or any claim dependent thereon in which a plurality of sets of hangers are provided one set of each side of the column, the hangers being arranged at different heights above the level of the relevant grill pan.

In accordance with the present invention there is provided a barbecue comprising a support column on which at least one combustion section is removably mounted, a tray being provided for the or each combustion section which is removably mounted on the column at a location above its associated combustion section and at any one of a plurality of height positions above the said section. An optional feature of the invention is a cover. In the preferred embodiment, the cover is of hemispherical shape and covers all three combustion sections. The barbecue consists of a support column 10 of triangular cross-section which is mounted vertically in a wheeled trolley arrangement fixed rigidly to the lower end of the column. The trolley arrangement consists of a mild steel member 12 bent to a generally cruciform shape. Two limbs of the member 12 are secured to the column 10 by bolts, two of which 14 can be seen. A grill tray 26 is associated with each combustion section. Each tray may be carried by the column 10 at any one of a number of positions above its respective combustion section thus enabling the height of the tray above its associated combustion section to be adjusted. 1. A barbecue comprising a support column on which at least one combustion section is removably mounted, a tray being provided for the or each section which is removably mounted on the column at a location above its associated combustion section and at any one of a plurality of height positions above said section.

2. A barbecue as claimed in claim 1 in which the support column is multi-sided, a combustion section and tray being associated with each side.

3. A barbecue as claimed in claim 2 in which the support column is of triangular cross section.

4. A barbecue as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 in which each combustion section is a hollow container for receiving fuel and has a perforated base to enable air to be supplied to the fuel.

5. A barbecue as claimed in any one of claims to 4 in which the part of each grill tray adjacent a side of the support column is bent to form a hook which fits over one of a plurality of hangers on the column.

6. A barbecue as claimed in claim 5 when appendant to claim 2 or any claim dependent thereon in which a plurality of sets of hangers are provided one set of each side of the column, the hangers being arranged at different heights above the level of the relevant grill pan.

7. A barbecue as claimed in any one of the preceding claims which is mounted upon wheels to render it portable.

8. A barbecue as claimed in any one of the preceding claims whenever provided with a cover.

9. A barbecue substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
