Abstract

A safe 1 comprises a portable lockable container 3, and a casing 2 which can be secured, e.g. screwed, to a non-portable object to prevent theft of the container 3. A lock 6 in the container 3 which locks a lid of the container 3 also serves to secure the container 3 within the casing 2. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Safe suitable for holding documents bonds or valuables The invention relates to a safe suitable for holding documents, bonds, valuables and the like, provided with a casing which may be secured to a nonportable support by means of attachment means and in which a container, which in the inserted position may be locked in the case by means of a lock, can be received, preferably by being slidably mounted.
A safe of this type can be used for replacing the generally known cash-box which, although it may be locked so that the contents are not accessible to unauthorised persons, can usually be easily taken away by thieves. In order to prevent this, the safe can be similar to known devices, but constructed so as to be fastenable to a support. The device may, for example, be put in a motor car or caravan, so that documents required during the journey may be kept in the said device.
Generally, known safes have a container constructed as a drawer open on the upper side, so that if the motor car or caravan is left for any period of time, the contents must be removed from the drawer and be carried loose, which may be awkward in certain circumstances.
This invention can provide a safe of the type described above, in which this disadvantage is overcome in an expedient yet simple manner.
Thus, the present invention consists in a safe, which comprises: a casing, which can be secured to a non-portable object; and a portable container with a lockable lid, which can be received within the casing; the lockforthe lid can also lock the container within the casing.
To this end the safe preferably comprises a box with a hinged lid, and a casing from which the box may be slid. The lid may be locked by means of a bar of the lock which locks the box in the case.
In this way a safe is obtained, the contents of which may, if desired, be carried about in the lockable box in a secure and reliable manner.
Furthermore the device has a particularly simple design and it may be manufactured at relatively low cost.
According to the invention the box may be provided with a carrying strap so that the box may be used like a bag.
The invention is further illustrated by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a container within a casing; Figure2 is a section along the line ll-ll in Figure 1, in which a support, to which the safe is secured, is shown diagrammatically; and Figure 3 is a section along the line Ill-Ill in Figure 2.
A device 1, in which documents, bonds, valuables or the like may be kept, is shown in Figure 1.The device 1 is provided with a casing 2 in which a container 3 is slidably mounted. The container is constructed as a box 4 with a hinged lid 5.
The-container 3 may be locked in the casing 2 by means of a lock 6 which is also used to lock the lid 5.
As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the lock has a bar 7 with a notch 8 which engages with a projection 9 attached to the lid 5 when the said lid 5 is locked. In addition the lid 5 has a slot 10 which in the inserted position is in alignment with a slot 12 formed in a wall 11 of the case 2. When the lid 5 is locked, the bar 7 projects through both the slot 10 and the slot 12, so that the box 4 is locked in the casing 2.
The casing 2 comprises a structure 13 which is open at both ends and which has a stop 14forthe box 4 at its rear end. The front end of the casing 2 has a flanged edge portion 15 which covers the slot 12. In addition, a plurality of diagonally arranged raised portions 16, in which fastening holes 17 are formed, are provided in the wall 11 of the casing 2 by means of which the safe can be secured to a non-portable object 18. The height of the said raised portions 16 above the wall 11 is at least as great as the height of the flanged edge portion 15 above the wall 11.
Openings, through which the fastening holes 17 are accessible when the box 4 is removed, are also provided in the wall of the casing 2 opposite that part of the wall labelled 11,so that the casing 2 may be secured to a support by means of screw fasteners or the like. This ensures that the device 1 as a whole cannot easily be removed.
if it is wished to take the contents of the device 1 which one, however, the box 4 may be slid out of the casing 2 after being unlocked, so that the contents of the device 1 may be conveyed in the locked box 4 in a secure and reliable manner. The box 4 may be further provided with a carrying strap 19, which facilitates handling of the box 4 when being conveyed.
1. A safe, which comprises: a casing, which can be secured to a non-portable object; and a portable container with a lockable lid, which can be received within the casing; the lock for the lid can also lock the container within the casing.
2. A safe suitable for holding documents, bonds or valuables provided with a casing which may be secured to a support by means of attachment means and in which a container, which in the inserted position may be locked in the casing by means of a lock, is slidably mounted, in which the container has a hinged lid, which may be slid out of the casing, and the lid may be locked by means of the bar of the lock which locks the container in the casing.
3. Asafe according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, in which the container is provided with a carrying strap.
4. A safe according to any one of Claims 1,2 and 3, in which the casing is provided with a plurality of diagonally arranged raised portions in which fastening holes are formed.
5. A safe according to any one of the preceding Claims, in which the casing is open at both ends and has a stop for the container at its rear end.
