Abstract

In order to prevent overheating in electrical connectors (which term includes switches) or components thereof, a temperature sentinel 32 is provided which causes an increased current to be drawn into the connector 13 when a temperature threshold is exceeded. Preferably the sentinel 32 is made from a short length of a dual conductor element having a heat- sensitive insulating material between the two conductors. This material becomes conductive when the temperature threshold is reached, so as to draw more current. This increase in current ensures that conventional over-current protective devices, such as fuses, operate. The use of temperature sentinels operating in the manner described above is described in relation to multi- pin connectors, for electric blankets and hand tools. The invention may be embodied into "no-access" fully moulded plugs. <IMAGE>
