Abstract

A pivot bearing for a glass door 1 comprises a pivot journal 6 and a glass-retaining strip 2 of U-shaped cross-section fixed by a silicone adhesive 5 to the glass door 1. The two opposite substantially plane outer surfaces 16, 17 of the two legs 3, 4 of the strips converge slightly in wedge form downwards towards the transverse web portion 18 of the strip 2. The pivot journal 6 comprises an axial extension piece 11 having a through- extending open-ended transverse groove 13 which receives the legs 3, 4 of the strip 2 and is bounded by inner surfaces 14, 15 diverging in wedge form to fit against the outer surfaces 16, 17, the glass- retaining strip 2 being guided in the transverse groove 13 for displacement radially of the pivot journal 6 when the frictional engagement between the strip 2 and the extension piece 11 is eliminated by appropriate relative placing thereof in the axial direction of the pivot journal 6. For security against burglary and displacement screws 22, 23 can be applied through apertures in inner surfaces 14, 15 of the extension piece 11 to engage in depression 27, 26 in the outer surfaces 16, 17 of the legs 3, 4 respectively. A box 8 has a removable cover 9 at floor level and accommodates a ball bearing 7 for the journal 6, which is preferably the spindle of a door- closer and receives a screw-thread 10 on a shank of the piece 11. <IMAGE>
