Abstract

A process for the manufacture of sanitary fittings and other bathroom fittings involves forming a thermoplastic blank 16 previously heated to its softening temperature by placing it onto a metal mould 1 and applying suction through perforations 9 in the surface of the mould 1 to draw the blank onto the inner surface of the mould while eliminating air between the blank and the surface of the mould. A metal former 5 is then applied to the blank 16 to press it against the mould 1, while air trapped between the former 5 and the blank 16 is allowed to escape through perforations 12 in the former 5. After the blank has been compressed between the former 5 and the mould 1, the former 5 is withdrawn while compressed air is applied through the perforations in the mould and in the former in order to facilitate separation of the finished fitting therefrom. <IMAGE>
