Abstract

A connector for flexible, elastically deformable, optical fibres comprises two partially overlapping connector portions, one portion bearing at least one 'V' groove (230) in which the fibres are laid in end to end relation, and the other portion being provided with a flat surface (228) which overlies the joinder of the fibres whereby both fibres are centred and held between three lines of contact. The flat surface may be the bottom of a rectangular groove. Prior to making up the joint one fibre is introduced into the V grooved portion and the other is introduced into the flat bearing portion, the subsequent engagement of the portions bringing the ends into the desired relationship. <IMAGE>
