Abstract

5124. Frommer, R. March 31, 1913, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; breech action, sliding barrel and breech-block.-Relates to automatic guns in which the discharge is effected by a pivoted hammer striking a firing-pin, and consists in making the firing-pin in two parts which are kept apart during the operation of the breech action, so that, during the closing of the breech, the rebound spring has to withstand the momentum of the light front part only. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the front part 4 is mounted in the rotary bolt-head 1 and the rear part is mounted in the non-rotary breech-bolt 2, which during the last part of the closing movement telescopes on to the bolt-head and rotates it by means of a steep screw-thread. When the breech is open, the rear part 6 of the firing-pin bears against a shoulder 9 on the bolt, as shown in Fig. 1. Only when the bolt has nearly completed its locking movement, its forward velocity then being comparatively low, does the rear part 6 come in contact with the forward part of the firing-pin.
