Abstract
9635. Brittain, T. R. April 25, 1906, (date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Moulding clay.- In preparing clay for pottery manufacture, slip is forced under considerable pressure through an opening 23 into the interior of a chamber formed by semicylindrical members 1, 2 bolted together through the flanges 4. A filtering lining, which may consist of canvas placed between layers of wire cloth, is gripped between the flanges. Liquid passing through the lining is led by grooves 18 to outlets 19. The solid material is moved forwards to the conical outlet by spirally-arranged blades 17 on a mandrel 14 rotated by spur gearing from the shaft 12. A die may be secured at the outlet end so that the plastic material issues in a continuous stream, from which pieces of a predetermined length may be cut.
